Opera’s legendary femme fatale returns to Lyric Opera of Chicago with Bizet’s Carmen — March 11 – April 7, 2023 — starring J’Nai Bridges, a leading interpreter of the famous title role and a singer with deep Chicago roots.

Lyric Opera of Chicago will hold auditions for solo dancers with significant stage experience for its upcoming production of Carmen, the classic opera by Georges Bizet, on Sunday, August 28, 2022. 

Joyce DiDonato’s recitals-as-events--where she introduces her personal philosophies as well as her art into the evening--have their ups and downs. Sometimes they are marvelous. Saturday night at Carnegie Hall, the concert, directed by Marie Lambert-Le Bihan with lighting by John Torres, that also served as part of her publicity tour for her new recording, EDEN (Erato), seemed less than the sum of its parts.

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato brings her latest innovative project to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Titled EDEN, the program explores our individual connection to nature and its impact on our world and features Ms. DiDonato’s frequent collaborators Maxim Emelyanychev leading Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro. Fusing music, movement, and theater, the program includes works spanning from the 17th to the 21st century by Handel, Gluck, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, and Copland, as well as the New York premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The First Morning of the World, commissioned specifically for this project.

Lyric Opera of Chicago today announced the company’s 2022/23 Season, featuring productions of classic operas, a continuing long-term focus on developing and presenting new work, plus the return of Lyric’s annual spring musical.

SAN FRANCISCO (November 11, 2015) –– For the first time since 2001, San Francisco Opera presents Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in a new David McVicar co-production with Lyric Opera of Chicago and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Opening on November 18, theproduction features an illustrious team of Wagner interpreters led by James Rutherford as Hans Sachs, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Walther von Stolzing and debuting soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Eva, with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Sir Mark Elder in his Company debut.

San Francisco Opera today announced a cast change for Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, opening November 18. British baritone James Rutherford will sing the central role of Hans Sachs, replacing Greer Grimsley who has withdrawn from the production. The David McVicar production, a co-presentation of San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Glyndebourne Festival Opera, is conducted by Sir Mark Elder and runs for six performances November 18-December 6, 2015 at the War Memorial Opera House.
