medici.tv Presents Final Installment of Domingo's OPERALIA Tonight, 6/10

medicitv-Presents-Final-Installment-of-Domingos-OPERALIA-610-20010101

Tonight, June 10 at 7:30am EST, medici.tv will present, live from Beijing, the final round of the 20th annual installment of Plácido Domingo's Operalia, the iconic international competition that reveals the world's top young operatic talent. This is the third consecutive year medici.tv will be presenting Operalia in partnership with Rolex.

The National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing will be the setting for performances by the ten finalists, young singers aged 18 to 30 years. Domingo himself will conduct the gala concert featuring the finalists. Following the performances of these ten young talents, the jury – headed by Domingo and composed of key personalities from the world of opera – will evaluate the vocal technique, performing qualities and stage presence of each candidate.

Past winners of Operalia include Ainhoa Arteta, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Joseph Calleja, José Cura, Joyce DiDonato, Stéphane Degout, Giuseppe Filianoti, Elizabeth Futral, Joseph Kaiser, Inva Mula, Eric Owens, Erwin Schrott, Nina Stemme, Ludovic Tézier and Rolando Villazón, among other international stars. There is a special medici.tv collection of video performances by DiDonato, Villazón, Cura, Degout, Tézier, Mula and other past Operalia winners here.

Founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo, Operalia has revealed to the world such great opera performers as Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, Stéphane Degout, Inva Mula, Nina Stemme, José Cura, John Osborn, Susanna Phillips, Ludovic Tézier and many more. During the past 20 years, the jury of Operalia, headed by Domingo as a non-voting member, has traveled the world to catch the greatest emerging talents. In past years, Operalia has been set in the top opera houses of Paris, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., Madrid, Quebec, Milan and Moscow. Its 20th anniversary edition sees Operalia at the most important arts center in China: the monumental National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing – the Bird's Egg, as it is often called – imagined by Paul Andreu and inaugurated in 2007.

As with every annual installment of Operalia, a thousand young singers have applied to be the next Operalia winner. Only 40 of them will have made it to the final round in Beijing, and only 10 of these will compete during the final round's gala concert on June 10, conducted by Domingo.

Broadcast live tonight, June 10, the 20th Operalia gala concert and awards ceremony will be available for free viewing on medici.tv until September 10.
