Stephen Gaertner to Sing 'Coroebus' Tonight in the Met's LES TROYENS

Stephen Gaertner will sing the role of Coroebus in this evening's performance of Berlioz's Les Troyens, replacing DWayne Croft, who is ill.

The American baritone made his Met debut as Enrico in a 2007 performance of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, in which he replaced an ailing colleague midway through the opera. He has appeared in more than 30 subsequent Met performances, singing Enrico, Moralès in Bizet's Carmen, the Count of Lerma in Verdi's Don Carlo, Paolo Albiani in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, and Melot in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. This season at the Met, he also sings Montano in Verdi's Otello and Berlingerio in Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini.

Les Troyens, conducted by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi, also stars Deborah Voigt as Cassandra, Susan Graham as Dido, Karen Cargill as Anna, Marcello Giordani as Aeneas, Eric Cutler as Iopas, and Kwangchul Youn as Narbal.
