Photo Coverage: Dicapo Opera Theatre Wraps Up Season with Childrens' Chorus Spring Concert

After the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera, Dicapo Opera Theatre is the only opera company in New York to present an entire season of opera productions, musical theatre, concerts, family fare, and other events, and it does so in a gem of a facility tucked away on the Upper East Side at 184 East 76th Street. The Dicapo Opera Theatre is headed by General Director, Michael Capasso and Artistic Director, Diane Martindale.

For the 2009-10 season Dicapo mounted a new production of Tobias Picker's EMMELINE; the New York premiere of Thomas Pasatieri's THE HOTEL CASABLANCA; the world premiere of IL CASO MORTARA Francesco Cilluffo; the American premiere of Donizetti's Requiem, and a concert entitled "Italian-American Composers of the 20th Century," which will feature music from Thomas Pasatieri, Gian-Carlo Menotti, Norman Dello Joio, Mark Adamo, and Vittorio Giannini. Other productions included Verdi's Rigoletto; and Puccini's Madama Butterfly in the Brescia version.

The season finished off with the Dicapo Opera Theatre's Childrens' Chorus Spring Concert. The Dicapo Children's Chorus presents several shows and concerts throughout the year. Since Ms. Diane Martindale founded the Dicapo Children's Chorus in 1982, the chorus has performed at Lincoln Center, as guest artists at Alice Tully Hall with "The Little Orchestra Society," Merkin Hall, The Rose Theater at Lincoln Center, the Rheinman Theater at New York University, the Long Island Opera, the Long Island Children's Orchestra and the National Grand Opera Company. In addition to the children's concerts, the Dicapo Children Chorus children often take part in mainstage Dicapo Opera Theatre productions where they work with professional directors, singers, actors and musicians.

The Dicapo Opera Childrens Chorus members are: Howard Cravens, Jeanne-Marie Cravens, Sophie Dornbaum, Katrina Fasulo, Grace Goldstein, Emmanuelle Gourier, Emily Irwin, Leah Lane, Juliet LaSala, Chole Locarro, Claudia Malpeli, Andres Marinos, Paolo Marinos, Jane Priester, Sara Ptachik, Olivia Richert, Olivia Romano, Nicholas Sadnytzky, Katrina Taverna, Taylor Taverna, Tania Taverna, Nicholas Taylor, and Cecelia Whitney.

The Dicapo Opera 2010 to 2011 season begins in September with a production of THE SEAGULL. Also scheduled for the next season are productions of LA BOHEME, GOD BLESS US EVERYONE, THE SAINT OF BLEEKER STREET, and EUGENE ONEGIN.
