Met Opera's Wagner's RING CYCLE and More to Screen in Louisville, Beg. Tonight, 5/7

Just when you think the 2011/12 performing arts season is over, it was announced that the Metropolitan Opera will have a Summer Encore Series of 11 operas starting tonight, May 7. Stonybrook and Tinseltown will show these operas. A reliable source reports the ticket price at Stonybrook will be $12.50, not the usual $22 charged during the regular season.

While not confirmed, there is good reason to believe that Thomson Smillie (former Director of Kentucky Opera) will provide a talk about selected operas in July — right in the theater at Stonybrook before the performance begins.

Perhaps the biggest news is Wagner's complete "Ring" cycle will be shown early this month. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience this monumental work as it was intended right here in Louisville.

The Culture Vulture is working on a deal with Stonybrook that will give Louisville Culture Vulture friends a $1.00 discount on every ticket purchased at the box office the day of the performance.
