Kyle Ketelsen and Bryn Terfel Step in as Leporello in Metropolitan Opera's DON GIOVANNI

Kyle-Ketelsen-and-Bryn-Terfel-Step-in-as-Leporello-in-Metropolitan-Operas-DON-GIOVANNI-20010101

Kyle Ketelsen and Bryn Terfel will sing four performances each of the role of Leporello in the upcoming performances of Don Giovanni, replacing John Relyea who is now on vocal rest at his physician's instructions. Ketelsen will sing the role on February 21, 24, 29, and March 3; Terfel will sing the role on March 7, 10 mat, 14, and 17.

Ketelsen made his Met debut in 2006 as Angelotti in Tosca and later this season will sing the role of Mr. Flint in the revival of Billy Budd. He has sung Leporello at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatre Liceu in Barcelona, Los Angeles Opera, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.

Earlier this season he sang Escamillo in Carmen with the Teatro Comunale of Bologna on tour in Japan, followed by appearances at the Houston Grand Opera as Basilio in IL Barbiere di Siviglia and Fernando in Fidelio.

Terfel, who sings Wotan this season in the Met's spring Ring cycles, performed the role of Leporello during the Met's 1994-95 and 2000-01 seasons. He has since sung the role to great acclaim all over the world, including the opening of this season at La Scala in Milan. His numerous other Met appearances include the title roles in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Falstaff, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, the Four Villains in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Scarpia in Tosca, and Jochanaan in Salome.

Don Giovanni, a new production by Michael Grandage that premiered in October, is conducted by Andrew Davis and stars Gerald Finley in the title role, Marina Rebeka as Donna Anna, Ellie Dehn as Donna Elvira, Isabel Leonard as Zerlina, Matthew Polenzani as Don Ottavio, Shenyang as Masetto, and James Morris as the Commendatore.
