Jonas Kaufmann to Make His NY Recital Debut at the Met Opera 10/30

Jonas-Kaufmann-to-Make-His-NY-Recital-Debut-at-the-Met-Opera-20010101

Star tenor Jonas Kaufmann will sing his first-ever New York recital at the Metropolitan Opera on Sunday, October 30 at 4 p.m. Accompanied by pianist Helmut Deutsch, Mr. Kaufmann will perform songs and lieder by Franz Liszt, Gustav Mahler, Henri Duparc, and Richard Strauss. The recital offers New York audiences their first opportunity to hear Kaufmann in this repertory, a vocal genre at which he excels.

Kaufmann, a favorite of audiences and critics at the Met and around the world, stars in this season's new production of Gounod's Faust and as Siegmund in the complete cycles of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. He made his Met debut in 2006 as Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata and has also sung Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca, and Don José in Bizet's Carmen here.. He is a frequent recitalist in Europe, where his performances regularly sell out. His discography includes five solo recitals, two of which-Strauss Lieder (Harmonia Mundi, 2006) and Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin (Decca, 2009)-are also collaborations with pianist Deutsch.

Deutsch is a frequent performer in both chamber music and vocal recitals. A winner of the Vienna Composition Prize, his past collaborators have included a range of legendary artists, such as Olaf Bär, Barbara Bonney, Ileana Cotrubas, Brigitte Fassbaender, Hans Hotter, Keith Lewis, Hermann Prey, Josef Protschka, Peter Schreier, Irmgard Seefried, Bo Skovhus, Rita Streich, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Bernd Weikl. His numerous recordings include the complete vocal works of Johannes Brahms.
