Hei-Kyung Hong will sing the role of Violetta Valéry in Verdi's La Traviata at tomorrow's Metropolitan Opera performance, replacing Natalie Dessay, who is ill.
Hong last sang Violetta at the Met in 2010. Her repertory with the company encompasses more than 350 performances of 24 roles. In recent seasons, she has sung Juliette in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen, the Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Liù in Puccini's Turandot, and Eva in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Earlier this season, she sang one of her most frequent Met roles, Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème.
La Traviata, conducted by Fabio Luisi, also stars Matthew Polenzani as Alfredo Germont and Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Giorgio Germont.
