Chicago Opera Theatre Examines Edgar Allen Poe and Philip Glass in DEEP INTO THE DARKNESS PEERING Today

Chicago-Opera-Theatre-Welcomes-Edgar-Allen-Poe-in-DEEP-INTO-THE-DARKNESS-PEERING-20010101

This evening, November 11th, peer deep into the darkness with Chicago Opera Theater (COT) as they host a deliciously eerie night of Edgar Allan Poe and Philip Glass performances at Chicago's popular Uncommon Ground on Clark Street. The one-night engagement will be the first in a series of events in anticipation of General Director Andreas Mitisek's inaugural 2013 season – POWER OF LOVE, LOVE OF POWER.

"Just like the artists and designers, the audience is a crucial part of every production," said Mitisek. "We want to give our audiences new ways to broaden their experiences and explore the themes of our operas before opening night."

A collaboration with Uncommon Ground and Chicago's LifeLine Theater, Deep into Darkness Peering… will be an opportunity for a first glimpse into what COT's 2013 season has to offer. The evening's program will consist of a selection from Philip Glass' "The Fall of the House of Usher" – opening at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park on February 23rd - performed by COT artists Leila Bowie, Scott Brunscheen, and Adam Hendrickson accompanied by Mitisek himself. Guests will also be treated to dramatic readings of Poe favorites – including "The Raven" and "The Cask of Amontillado" by actors from Chicago's LifeLine Theater.

Space for this not-to-be-missed event is limited. Deep into the Darkness Peering… will take place at Uncommon Ground at 3800 NortH Clark Street in Chicago's Lakeview Neighborhood at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $15; reservations can be made ahead of time by calling 773.929.3680, or can be purchased at the door.

Founded in 1974 by Alan Stone, Chicago Opera Theater (COT) has carved a significant place for itself in the operatic life of Chicago and has reached an audience of hundreds of thousands through its mainstage performances, community engagement, education programs in Chicago Public Schools, as well as its renowned Young Artist Program. Chicago Opera Theater preforms at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park, 205 E Randolph. For information on subscriptions and the 2013 season, visit ChicagoOperaTheater.org or call 312.704.8414.

Now in its 30th season, Lifeline Theatre specializes in original literary adaptations. Its ensemble of artists uses imaginative, unconventional staging to portray sprawling stories in an intimate space. Lifeline is committed to promoting the arts in its Rogers Park neighborhood and is an anchor of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District. They aspire to create art that is relevant to our culturally diverse, increasingly youthful neighborhood.
