Nikolai Schukoff has sung Don José at the Hamburg State Opera and Baden-Baden Festival; he will sing the role at the Paris Opera in December 2012. Last season, he sang the title role in Wagner's Parsifal in Hamburg and Lyon and Bacchus in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia. Andrew Richards has sung Don José in Paris, Verona, Hamburg, Granada, Bologna, Luxembourg, and Lisbon. Last season, Ekaterina Scherbachenko sang Liù in Puccini's Turandot at the Munich Festival, Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème at Glyndebourne, Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at Bavarian State Opera, and the title role in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Rhodes sang his first Met Escamillos in 2010, including a performance that was transmitted to movie theaters around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series. He made his Met debut as Ned Keene in the 2008 new production premiere of Britten's Peter Grimes.
DWayne Croft will sing Escamillo at the October 11 performance and Hei-Kyung Hong will sing Micaëla on February 26.
The Carmen opening performance tonight, September 28 will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SIRIUS XM Channel 74, as will the performances on October 11 and 15 and February 23 and 26. The October 15 and February 26 performances will also be streamed live on the Met's website, www.metopera.org.
The February 23 matinee at 12:30 p.m. will be broadcast live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
